Deadline Apr. 2   The Quinte Arts Council’s Expressions Juried Visual Art Show and Sale will be held May 6 to June 3 in the John M. Mar. 3 to 28          The Art Gallery of Bancroft at 10 Flint Ave. presents its 20th Annual Student Art Exhibition.  High school students from four area schools have been invited to participate.  Awards of excellence will be presented in the following categories:  drawing, painting, 3-dimensional and new media.  Opening reception and awards presentation on March 5 at 7:30 pm.

Mar. 4 to 31          Artist Mia Lane presents Charades, an examination of our changing environment through surreal imagery with an in depth look at the artist’s process, in the John M. Parrott Art Gallery, Belleville Library.  Opening Mar. 4, with Artist Talk, 5:30 to 7 pm.  Andrea Graham is in Gallery 2, with her show Adaptations, an exploration in felt of the mutation and adaptation of the natural world in our changing climate.  Opening reception, with Artist Talk, Mar. 6, 2 to 4 pm.  Info: 613-968-6731 ext. 2240.

Mar. 4 to 31          In the John M. Parrott Art Gallery, Belleville Library is Charades (work by Mia Lane) in Gallery 1, Gallery 2 hosts a display of felted works, both two- and three-dimensional by Kingston artist, Andrea Graham.  Gallery 3, a rotating display of oil paintings by Manly MacDonald from the permanent collection.  Corridor Gallery plays host to an ever-changing array of arts, crafts and community displays.  Info: www.bellevillelibrary.com.

Mar. 4 to Apr. 29 The Heritage Centre Art Gallery, 40 Victoria St. N., Tweed, presents their new visual art exhibition, featuring the acrylic paintings of well-known photographer Robert McIntosh; Carl Reed’s watercolour landscapes and Barbara Bering’s brilliant floral acrylics.  A show reception will take place on Sat. Deadline Mar. 19     The 6th Annual ARTEVĪNO is being held at the Crystal Palace in Picton on June 19 (new date) from noon to 4 p.m.  We are looking for visual artists and art groups who are members of either the Quinte Arts Council or the Prince Edward County Arts Council to join us in a celebration of regional arts, wine and food.  A table and linen will be provided on which to display your work.  If you have your own booth please let us know when responding to this call.  There is no entry fee and 20% of all work sold will be donated to support QAC and PECAC.  Send contact information and digital images of examples of the work that you wish to display to either Carol Feeney at feeney@quinteartscouncil.org or Tracy Douglas at pecartscouncil@bellnet.ca.

Deadline May 17     Ontario Fidelis Alpha, a retired teachers’ chapter of Alpha Dleta Kappa an international educators’ sorority, is now accepting applications for the Orma Tipper Arts Award in Music and/or Drama.  This award is intended for persons of amateur status currently studying music and/or drama either privately or within the elementary or secondary school system.  Groups may also apply.  This award is designed to recognize outstanding and worthy performers in these fields and to promote and encourage further study in these areas.  Teachers may apply on behalf of their students.  For information or an application form, call 613-476-5310 or 613-962-3896.  There is no entry fee.  Applications must be postmarked by May 17, 2010.

Mar. 5                    Trenton Citizens’ Band Concert, with guests Prince Charles Public School Concert Band, will perform 7:30 pm (refreshments 6:30 to 7:15) at King Street United Church, 100 King St., Trenton.  Tickets: $8 for adults, free for students. Proceeds for instrumental music programs in local schools.

Mar. 7                    The Bay of Quinte Community Theatre is holding auditions for the next production called Something for Charlie at 2 to 4 pm, Mar. 7 and 7 to 9 pm, Mar. 8. Deadline Apr. 30     The Quinte Arts Council’s Arts Recognition Awards honour those who have made an outstanding contribution to the arts in Quinte.  The purpose of this award is to acknowledge individuals, companies or organizations that have made a contribution to arts and culture in our community.  Winners will receive a hand-crafted award by a local artist.  Tell us the name of the person, company or organization that you wish to nominate and let us know why you are making the nomination in about 250 words or less.  You will need to get two other people to write a brief letter of support to accompany your nomination.  Nomination forms: www.quinteartscouncil.org, 36 Bridge St. East, Belleville, 613-962-1232.  For a list of past recipients, visit www.quinteartscouncil.org.

Deadline Apr. 1       The volunteer Board of the Bancroft Village Playhouse welcomes expressions of interest leading to proposals for summer theatre operation beginning in 2011.  This venue has enjoyed an established summer theatre program since 1992.  A major renovation was completed in 1995.  To learn more about the facility, visit www.bancroftvillageplayhouse .  The current operators of summer theatre are working with the Board to secure a successor organization to carry on the tradition for the 2011-2014 period.  Assets available include summer patron mailing list, box office system, sets, costumes, café furnishings, etc.  The Playhouse itself has adequate lighting equipment, operated via a modern digital board. Deadline May 5   The theme for the John M. Parrott Art Gallery’s 8th annual juried show is Music as Muse.  The deadline for entries is May 5. The show will run from June 10 to July 15.  Work in all media is welcome.  Info: gallery@bellevillelibrary.com.

2nd Friday every month   Pianist Rick Penner plays in the John M. Mar. 13                  Learn how to use your new digital camera and take wonderful photos at a one-day Digital Camera Course with photographer, Peggy deWitt. Mar. 13 to Apr. 25    The Colborne Art Gallery, 51 King St. E, Colborne, presents Alf Blything A Retrospective, a wonderful opportunity to revisit the rare talent of the late Alf Blything, including many pieces from private collections.  Alf was an inspired and prolific artist, constantly amazing us with his intricate and detailed work and his wry sense of humour.  New works by the other gallery artists are shown in the 2nd and 3rd galleries.  Opening reception on Sat. Deadline Mar. 15     Queen Beads Productions is looking for unique artisans and crafters to showcase their wares at their first annual "Mother of all Craft" Shows - a fundraising event in support of the Fixed Fur Life Charity - taking place on May 1, 2010, at the Belleville Recreation Centre, 116 Pinnacle Street, Belleville.  Table fees are $50.  The show will be well-advertised and just in time to find that special Mother's Day gift!  This is a juried show so be sure to include 3-5 images of the items you intend to sell and submit to: queenbeadsproductions@gmail.com by March 15.
