Deadline July 10  The Quinte Arts Council is hoping to start a new program that will help to introduce the visual arts to young children in fun and innovative ways.  To kick it off, we’re planning a day of arts and crafts in July.  We’re hoping this will develop into an ongoing program.  If you are an artist experienced in teaching young children and would like to get involved, please contact Lisa Lalonde at 613-966-9427 or lisalalonde@hotmail.com.

Deadline Aug. 15  Artisans and crafters are invited to participate in the 6th Annual Home for the Holidays, Nov. 15.  Held at The Empire Theatre, Belleville.  This is a juried show and sale welcoming applications in all craft mediums. Limits are imposed in each category.  All items offered for sale must be handmade, with a min of 50% of the craftsmanship being executed by the Vendor selling the craft.  Any items derived from kit work, wholesale or commercially purchased/manufactured products or are in direct conflict with copyright infringement will not be allowed. July 6 and 22  Cinefest Picton at the Regent Theatre presents Three Monkeys on July 6 and Nightwatching (Peter Greenaway), a moving look at Rembrandt's life, and the controversy he created by the painting The Night Watch, July 22 at 2 and 7:30 p.m. at the Regent Theatre.

HERITAGE

July 30 to Aug. 3  PurdyFest #3 will be held on the August holiday weekend, over five days, in four locations, Malone, Marmora, Brighton and Ameliasburgh.  See article on page 7.

Aug. 20  Aug. 20 at 1 p.m., there will be a book reading by Carryl Postma, author of The Tree That Could Be Green, at the Goodrich-Loomis Nature Camp during Climate Change Challenge Week. Signed Books and Markers will be available for purchase, some proceeds being donated to the camp. This delightful Children's Picture Book deals with the issues of Global Warming and Climate Change seen through the eyes of a sickly Mr. Tree.

WORKSHOPS

Summer  Artists in Motion in Marmora are offering workshops this summer for people age 8 to 80 plus interested in discovering/exploring their creativity in many areas:  acting, beading, sewing, fibre arts, acrylics, watercolour, collage, patio stones, jewellery-making, 3-D art, photography and much more.  Workshops will be in July and August at the AIM store, 29 Forsyth St. in Marmora.  Registration is opening on Saturday June 13 from 9 a.m. until noon at the AIM store in Marmora.  Class sizes are limited so register early.  For more information, call 613 472 1278 or email christinedominico@sympatico.ca.
