EAR CANDY MUSIC FESTIVAL - ARTISTS

JAMIE STEEVER – SPANISH GUITAR
Guitarist Jamie Steever studied Classical guitar in Sudbury and has
been a studio musician on over 30 albums and worked on an
award-winning CD earning two Canadian Aboriginal Music Awards. He
recently released his new CD entitled Spanish Solstice and currently
has songs in publishing in Nashville, being pitched to major
artists. Jamie will play at Paulo’s Trattoria both nights from 7 to
11 p.m.

THE JADE HOPS - ROCK
This six-piece rock band (five of whom sing) play mostly repertoire
from the 1960s and 1970s, with a heavy dose of The Band, CCR, The
Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, America, Gordon Lightfoot, and splashes of
other fun stuff. The Jade Hops are Mark J Hunt (guitar/vocal),
Brian Frommer (guitar/harp/vocal), David Reed (guitar/keys/vocal),
Katrien Reed (vocal), Judson Levere (bass/keys/vocal), and Clint
Clarke (drums). They will perform at the Ramada Inn on Friday from
9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

THE FADE KINGS – BLUES, R&B
The Fade Kings have developed a
distinctive and unique sound characterized by solid grooves,
compelling melodies, and strong musicianship, allowing the band to
combine multiple music genres into a blues tour de force. Their
music is steeped heavily in the blues, with influences of R&B, soul,
jazz, roots traditional, Latin and classic rock. Formed in 1992, The
Fade Kings are seasoned pros who have appeared to rave reviews at
such venues as Kingston’s Limestone City Blues Festival, the Prince
Edward County Jazz Festival, the Cobourg Waterfront Festival and the
Loyalist End of Winter Blues Festival. They play at the Ramada Inn
Belleville Saturday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

KITCHEN TRIO – ECLECTIC AND CONTEMPORARY
John and Penny Kitchen’s love of music shines through in every
performance. They play a variety of styles - from Gershwin to
Cline, from Hoagie Carmichael to the Rolling Stones, from lullabies
to blues, jazz, R&B, swing, 40s, country and originals.
Joining the Kitchens is Steve Ireland on keyboards. They play at
Twist Restogrille on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

TIM HADLEY, MATT SMITH & LUKE MERCIER - ROOTS
Tim, Matt and Luke will perform cool acoustic roots music on dobro,
mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo and fiddle at Twist Restogrille on
Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. Upright bass player, Tim Hadley, started
out in Toronto as a member of the Grievous Angels, recording six CDs
with them. He also played with the Cajun Ramblers, Blackflies and
Lazy Grace. Since 2001, he has toured with Stompin’ Tom Connors and
recorded 2 CDs and a DVD with him.
Matt Smith is a songwriter, singer and
multi-instrumentalist performing on acoustic guitar, National steel
guitar, mandolin and harmonica. He has performed with some of
Canada's foremost entertainers, such as world music group Galitcha
and Harry Manx, and has opened for Tower of Power and Eric Burden
and the Animals. His sound is buried deep in the blues while
incorporating elements of country, bluegrass, ragtime, rock and
various European styles to create a multi-cultural roots sound that
is uniquely Canadian.
As a classical music composer, Luke Mercier has
had works performed by internationally acclaimed performing and
recording artists. At age 18, his solo piano work entitled Five
Meditations was premiered by Antonin Kubalek and performed to
critical acclaim. His music has been featured on both CBC National
Radio and Prime Time Television. For the past 15 years Luke has
built a reputation as a restorer of fine and rare violins, a maker
of violins and, more recently, banjos.

DAN BONE JAZZ QUARTET – JAZZ FUSION
The Dan Bone Jazz Quartet features Dan Bone on sax, Frankie LaPalm
on guitar, Kris Tischbein on bass, and Bryson Dockrill on drums.
Join them at The Belleville Club Friday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.,
where they will create harmonic grooves on the spot, turning the
room into its own polyphonic universe!

BLAIR YARRANTON AND THE COLLECTIVE – JAZZ, ETC.
Blair Yarranton and The Collective are an exciting new jazz
quartet featuring Blair on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dave Barton on
guitar, Doug Rooks on bass and Greg Runions on drums. They are
versed and experienced with the jazz standards but also enjoy
performing compositions by other artists such as Dave Douglas, Sam
Rivers, John McLeod, Kerry Wheeler as well as original compositions.
They play at the Belleville Club on Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

DUNCAN COOPER AND STEVE CONLEY – JAZZ AND BLUES
Duncan Cooper is a jazz pianist/vocalist who has performed in
Belleville and Kingston for the last 15 years. He is one-third of
Belleville’s premier jazz group, The Groove Trio. His other
activities include teaching and studio recording work. Steve Conley
is a respected drummer/vocalist who has been on the Belleville scene
for the last 30 years and is also a member of the Groove Trio. Their
repertoire includes instrumental jazz standards and vocal numbers
made popular by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Reed and Randy
Newman. They play at Earl & Angelo’s on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

CARL AND BETSY KIDD - JAZZ
Betsy Kidd received her higher musical education at the Royal
Conservatory of Music where she studied piano under Boris Berlin,
and theory and composition under Godfrey Ridout. Currently she
teaches piano to children and adults in Bloomfield. Carl Kidd
studied with a couple of excellent performers of trumpet in Toronto
but feels they were never able to communicate the very special
techniques necessary to perform trumpet correctly. He has spent many
years researching and grooming techniques that apply to trumpet and
has now become a local performer of jazz. Until recently, Betsy and
Carl performed Saturdays at Angeline’s Restaurant in Bloomfield.
Their names have appeared on the performer’s list every year since
the inauguration of the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival. They
play at Earl & Angelo’s on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m.

MELANIE HILMI – POP/ROCK
Melanie Hilmi is a native of Belleville who is completing
her studies on a part-time basis at the University of Toronto. She
continues to pursue her musical career as lead vocalist for the
Toronto Based band, Calling Wendy. Melanie and the band recently
returned from Los Angeles where they played several shows. Melanie
also pursues a solo career playing acoustic sets at several venues
around Toronto. Her repertoire consists of well-known favorites and
her own original material. Hear Melanie at Capers Brasserie on
Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

JOHN NEUDORF – BLUES AND JAZZ
John Neudorf has been very active in the music industry for the past
10 years, studying jazz at college first as a drummer, and later
taking the guidance of vocal instructor Rosemary Burns, who
channelled John's ability and started the journey forward into
singing and the blues. He went on to perform at some of Toronto's
top jazz clubs. You’ll enjoy his explosive scatt and warm phrasing
accompanied by the talented guitarist Mike Francis, on Saturday from
7 to 11 p.m. at Caper’s Brasserie.

FALLING FROM AIRPLANES - HARD CORE/SCREAMO
& VICE-VERSA - ROCK/PUNK
Falling From Airplanes is a Peterborough band that plays mostly
original songs in a variety of styles, from Hard Core/Screamo and
Experimental to softer styles and covers. Also on the bill that
night will be Roslin band, Vice-Versa (Kate and James Baker and Brad
Reid) who play original rock/punk. This is an unlicensed, all-ages
event. Both bands (and maybe one other!) will perform on Friday
from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Penguin Banquet Hall (back door
entrance off Pinnacle St., upstairs).
FEMALE IMPERSONATORS – MUSIC/COMEDY
The Bohemian Social Club at 272 Front St. will
present Female Impersonators on Friday and Saturday evening.
They’re planning a free pre-show between 7 to 8 p.m. on Saturday
only, so if you’re curious and have never seen one of these
outrageously entertaining shows, drop by for a preview.
