THE JADE HOPS - ROCK

This six-piece rock band (five of whom sing) play mostly repertoire from the 1960s and 1970s, with a heavy dose of The Band, CCR, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, America, Gordon Lightfoot, and splashes of other fun stuff.  The Jade Hops are Mark J Hunt (guitar/vocal), Brian Frommer (guitar/harp/vocal), David Reed (guitar/keys/vocal), Katrien Reed (vocal), Judson Levere (bass/keys/vocal), and Clint Clarke (drums).  They will perform at the Ramada Inn on Friday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

THE FADE KINGS – BLUES, R&B

The Fade Kings
have developed a distinctive and unique sound characterized by solid grooves, compelling melodies, and strong musicianship, allowing the band to combine multiple music genres into a blues tour de force.  Their music is steeped heavily in the blues, with influences of R&B, soul, jazz, roots traditional, Latin and classic rock. Formed in 1992, The Fade Kings are seasoned pros who have appeared to rave reviews at such venues as Kingston’s Limestone City Blues Festival, the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival, the Cobourg Waterfront Festival and the Loyalist End of Winter Blues Festival.  They play at the Ramada Inn Belleville Saturday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

KITCHEN TRIO – ECLECTIC AND CONTEMPORARY

John and Penny Kitchen’s love of music shines through in every performance.  They play a variety of styles - from Gershwin to Cline, from Hoagie Carmichael to the Rolling Stones, from lullabies to blues, jazz, R&B, swing, 40s, country and originals.
Joining the Kitchens is Steve Ireland on keyboards.  They play at Twist Restogrille on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

TIM HADLEY, MATT SMITH & LUKE MERCIER - ROOTS

Tim, Matt and Luke will perform cool acoustic roots music on dobro, mandolin, guitar, bass, banjo and fiddle at Twist Restogrille on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m.  Upright bass player, Tim Hadley, started out in Toronto as a member of the Grievous Angels, recording six CDs with them.  He also played with the Cajun Ramblers, Blackflies and Lazy Grace.  Since 2001, he has toured with Stompin’ Tom Connors and recorded 2 CDs and a DVD with him.

Matt Smith is a songwriter, singer and multi-instrumentalist performing on acoustic guitar, National steel guitar, mandolin and harmonica.  He has performed with some of Canada's foremost entertainers, such as world music group Galitcha and Harry Manx, and has opened for Tower of Power and Eric Burden and the Animals.  His sound is buried deep in the blues while incorporating elements of country, bluegrass, ragtime, rock and various European styles to create a multi-cultural roots sound that is uniquely Canadian.

As a classical music composer, Luke Mercier has had works performed by internationally acclaimed performing and recording artists.  At age 18, his solo piano work entitled Five Meditations was premiered by Antonin Kubalek and performed to critical acclaim.  His music has been featured on both CBC National Radio and Prime Time Television.  For the past 15 years Luke has built a reputation as a restorer of fine and rare violins, a maker of violins and, more recently, banjos.

DAN BONE JAZZ QUARTET – JAZZ FUSION

The Dan Bone Jazz Quartet features Dan Bone on sax, Frankie LaPalm on guitar, Kris Tischbein on bass, and Bryson Dockrill on drums.  Join them at The Belleville Club Friday night from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m., where they will create harmonic grooves on the spot, turning the room into its own polyphonic universe!

BLAIR YARRANTON AND THE COLLECTIVE – JAZZ, ETC.
Blair Yarranton and The Collective are an exciting new jazz quartet featuring Blair on trumpet and flugelhorn, Dave Barton on guitar, Doug Rooks on bass and Greg Runions on drums.  They are versed and experienced with the jazz standards but also enjoy performing compositions by other artists such as Dave Douglas, Sam Rivers, John McLeod, Kerry Wheeler as well as original compositions. DUNCAN COOPER AND STEVE CONLEY – JAZZ AND BLUES

Duncan Cooper is a jazz pianist/vocalist who has performed in Belleville and Kingston for the last 15 years.  He is one-third of Belleville’s premier jazz group, The Groove Trio.  His other activities include teaching and studio recording work.  Steve Conley is a respected drummer/vocalist who has been on the Belleville scene for the last 30 years and is also a member of the Groove Trio. Their repertoire includes instrumental jazz standards and vocal numbers made popular by Nat King Cole, Frank Sinatra, Jimmy Reed and Randy Newman.  They play at Earl & Angelo’s on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

CARL AND BETSY KIDD - JAZZ

Betsy Kidd received her higher musical education at the Royal Conservatory of Music where she studied piano under Boris Berlin, and theory and composition under Godfrey Ridout.  Currently she teaches piano to children and adults in Bloomfield.  Carl Kidd studied with a couple of excellent performers of trumpet in Toronto but feels they were never able to communicate the very special techniques necessary to perform trumpet correctly. He has spent many years researching and grooming techniques that apply to trumpet and has now become a local performer of jazz.  Until recently, Betsy and Carl performed Saturdays at Angeline’s Restaurant in Bloomfield. Their names have appeared on the performer’s list every year since the inauguration of the Prince Edward County Jazz Festival.  They play at Earl & Angelo’s on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m.

MELANIE HILMI – POP/ROCK
Melanie Hilmi is a native of Belleville who is completing her studies on a part-time basis at the University of Toronto.  She continues to pursue her musical career as lead vocalist for the Toronto Based band, Calling Wendy.  Melanie and the band recently returned from Los Angeles where they played several shows. Melanie also pursues a solo career playing acoustic sets at several venues around Toronto. Her repertoire consists of well-known favorites and her own original material.  Hear Melanie at Capers Brasserie on Friday from 7 to 11 p.m.

JOHN NEUDORF – BLUES AND JAZZ

John Neudorf has been very active in the music industry for the past 10 years, studying jazz at college first as a drummer, and later taking the guidance of vocal instructor Rosemary Burns, who channelled John's ability and started the journey forward into singing and the blues.  He went on to perform at some of Toronto's top jazz clubs.  You’ll enjoy his explosive scatt and warm phrasing accompanied by the talented guitarist Mike Francis, on Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. at Caper’s Brasserie.

FALLING FROM AIRPLANES - HARD CORE/SCREAMO
& VICE-VERSA - ROCK/PUNK

Falling From Airplanes is a Peterborough band that plays mostly original songs in a variety of styles, from Hard Core/Screamo and Experimental to softer styles and covers.  Also on the bill that night will be Roslin band, Vice-Versa (Kate and James Baker and Brad Reid) who play original rock/punk.  This is an unlicensed, all-ages event.  Both bands (and maybe one other!) will perform on Friday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Penguin Banquet Hall (back door entrance off Pinnacle St., upstairs).

FEMALE IMPERSONATORS – MUSIC/COMEDY

The Bohemian Social Club at 272 Front St. will present Female Impersonators on Friday and Saturday evening.  They’re planning a free pre-show between 7 to 8 p.m. on Saturday only, so if you’re curious and have never seen one of these outrageously entertaining shows, drop by for a preview.
