Angela Wagner (613)471-1634
Angela Wagner of MoonSpirit Pottery is a native to Prince Edward County. After five years of schooling on the East Coast she has returned to follow her dream of having her own studio. In Fredericton, New Brunswick, she received her Bachelor of Applied Arts from the University of New Brunswick and the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design as well as a Diploma in Fine Craft with her major in clay. Her work has been on display at the New Brunswick Craft Council Gallery in “A Show of Hands” and at Gallery Connexion in Fredericton, as well as The Algonquin Hotel in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. Angela primarily works with porcelain clay, using crystalline glazes on classical forms.
Artist Statement My work is influenced by nature’s beauty. I am drawn to the colourful translucence of oyster shells, opals, water and moody skies. I find the same magic and mystery in crystalline glazes. Crystal size, shape, and placement can be coaxed but never completely controlled. It is a very technically demanding surface but there are always surprises when I open a kiln and I am addicted to this marriage of skill and fortune. In terms of form, I want to compliment and contrast the complexity of the glaze with simplicity and classical quiet. In the finished pieces I find nature’s hidden jewels.
