MY
IMPRESSIONS by Don Ray
“ A painting that
mirrors reality cannot compare to one that reflects the spirit.”

To me, watercolours
are relaxing, satisfying, interesting, unpredictable and exciting.
As my style constantly changes, painting is an ongoing adventure and
learning process. I have been painting since the early nineties and
lean toward landscapes, some florals and abstracts. I have taken
lessons with several artists including Mari Hegler, Gary Chapman,
Ken McFarlane, Barry Lovegrove, Nancy Richmond, Gord McKenzie, Linda
Binflavi, Shirley Miller Doug Mays, Jean Carbonetti and Donnah
Cameron II.
One of my watercolours
was judged first place in the ‘Beginners Art Class’ at the 1999
Napanee Fair. I also placed first in the ‘Watercolour Class’ at the
2000 Napanee Fair.
I have shown with ‘The
Great Loyalist Adventure Tour’, Bath Artisans, the ‘West
Kingston Studio Tour’, Kingston Public Library, the Greystone Shop
at Bon Echo, Belleville Art Association Gallery and Quinte Arts
Council. For several summers, I took part in the “Artists in The
Park” program at Bon Echo Provincial Park and was invited on a
number of occasions to participate in the ‘Bon Echo Fall Arts
Festival’ by doing a watercolour demonstration and sale.
