These serigraphs
were part of Lis Mellikov Gare’s first solo show. They reflect her
experiences in Sault Ste. Marie area. The series of abstract and
non-object works project the mystic and exciting atmosphere the North
holds for many travelers. They show the impact of the Canadian Shield had
on her imagery.
Mrs. Gare feels
that there are certain forces and vibrations that exist and emanated from
the land and water, which make the landscape come alive. The Indian
pictographs and the surrounding land and water in Lake Superior Provincial
park had a particular impact on Mrs. Gare
These sensations
are translated through the wide range of visual language – colour, shape
and line. Her use of transparencies is particularly effective in
capturing the aura of the North.
