Belleville's Downtown DocFest

The first annual Belleville International Documentary Film Festival, Downtown DocFest, will hold its gala opening at the Empire Theatre on March 2, 2012 with plans to screen more than 30 international, national and local films over the weekend of March 2 & 3, 2012.

A committee of six local film enthusiasts with past experience working with the Quinte Film Alternative, the Elementary Teachers' Federation of Ontario Voices and Views Film Festival and the Organic Underground Coffee Shop documentary film series has been working hard for almost a year to bring this extraordinary international film festival to Belleville.

The committee has applied successfully for seed funding and will draw on films from the World Community Film Festival, started in 1992 in Courtney, BC. www.wcdes.ca/film-festival

The community is encouraged to participate in celebrating highly talented and committed international, national and community films, filmmakers and directors. Downtown DocFest invites Quinte area organizations, businesses and groups to become presenters and sponsors of relevant documentaries. Additionally, volunteers will be included in a variety of ways over the upcoming months.

As well, the committee will work closely with several Loyalist College departments to include students and faculty in active international, national and local educational opportunities.

The majority of the festival will be at the Core Centre on Pinnacle Street with films screening in three theatre venues throughout the event, a vendors' market, community group displays and a food court.  As well, there will be screenings at the Belleville Public Library on Saturday.

Film selection information, scheduling and further funding announcements will be forthcoming.
