Rosemary J. Brown was born in northern Quebec and spent her childhood in the Temagami region before moving to Hamilton, Ontario. She moved to Picton in November, 2001.

She has taken fine art courses at the Ontario School of Art and Design, McMaster University and the Dundas Valley School of Art. She has degrees in philosophy and social work from McMaster.
