Gilberto Borrajo’s artistic call came from
an early insatiable love of the beauty in life that encircles us.
For years his curiosity drove him to travel the world and that
decision was never regretted. “Heart over reason, you know?” In the
process, he learned about new places and began to look at the world
around him with fresh eyes and a new attitude, as he absorbed these
new experiences and cultures.
Over the years, this passion for experiencing the
world and continuous learning was intense and dominated his life,
leaving little or no time for expression. Now, as the aged chariot
slows his ways, the need to download all those accumulated
impressions becomes imperative. Gilberto is now driven to express
himself, urged on by the desire to reach out to people and share the
wonder of a world hidden by our busy lives.
Gilberto came to Belleville three years ago.
After a couple of years he joined the Belleville Art Association
(BAA). His first show was at the Bohemian Penguin’s Festival of
Winter juried show. He entered two paintings. In March 2006,
Gilberto became a member of the Quinte Art Council and one of his
paintings was accepted in the QAC’s juried show, Expressions 2006.
In Deja View “40”, the BAA annual juried
show at the John M. Parrot Gallery, he received an honourable mention from
judicator Shirley Mancino for his work, Bonjour Monsieur Cezanne
and The Marilyn Coulter Award for the best use of light in his
work, Always is Light in Other End.
His works regularly show at the BAA Studio
Gallery, 300 Front Street and at Artisans Gallery, 282 Front Street,
both in Belleville. He has also shown at the Belleville
Library Gallery and the Quinte Arts Council's Art in the Community
Gallery.
