Mandy Bing is a Canadian artist who draws inspiration from her surroundings in the Quinte West, Bay of Quinte region of Eastern Ontario. Through her paintings she endeavours to capture the mysteries of light and shadow as they shift through such “mundane” images as a forgotten barn, a sparkling wave on the surface of a lake, or a gnarled ancient tree. Each is a reminder of the beauty within the ordinary, the sacred within the mundane. She credits her surroundings with both nourishing her spirit and sparking her creativity. As a child, Mandy lived close to Lake Ontario and spent time in the Haliburton area of the Muskokas. These landscapes became part of her psyche, cultivating a deep respect for the natural world and nurturing an enduring love of creatures. Travels to the Middle East, the United States and Canada, and Italy, France and Spain, provided an education in the vast differences in landscape textures and light. Her education was in quite another direction, leading to a degree in Religion which introduced her to Asian and Indian religious art and iconography, the concept of architecture as sacred space, myth, symbol and archetypes, as well as the spiritual traditions of the first nations. Through the colour, movement and light in each landscape, and the presence and humour in each creature large and small, she invites us to remember that we live in harmony with the natural world which like each of us, is dynamic and ever changing. These are both her subjects and teachers. Mandy is also a member of the Spirit of the Hills, the Arts Council of Northumberland and the Belleville Art Association. She invites inquiries about commissions. Recent shows: February 2009: Catch the Spirit, Spirit of the Hills, John M.
