Jan Atkinson was born and raised in Toronto but has lived in Cobourg since 1975. When time became more available, Jan began to explore various art forms. In 2000, she took art lessons from a number of talented artists in the Cobourg/Port Hope area. Painting with acrylics has become Jan’s main focus as she finds it a very forgiving medium and the acrylics allow her to achieve the beautiful bold colors which dominate all of her paintings. Her paintings have evolved over the years and her favourite style can only be described as whimsical. The viewer and the artist are given a sense of joy and happiness, usually accompanied by a smile, while viewing these art pieces. Jan’s art is not limited to strictly wall art but has adorned many pieces of furniture and a large number of custom floor cloths. In 2004, Jan had a well-received showing of her art at the Human Bean, a busy Cobourg coffee house. This experience spurred her on to display some of her pieces with the Spirit of the Hills group art shows and the Campbellford Health Centre. You can also find Jan’s work at With All My Art in downtown Cobourg and Ganaraska Art in Port Hope.
“There is always much more to
learn and I look forward to the continuous evolution of my artwork.” |
